چکیده

The scientific objective of this study is to test the hypothesis that the antioxidant β-carotene will prevent or reduce plaque disruption and thrombosis in atherosclerotic rabbits. This protective effect on plaque disruption will be mediated by enhanced gap junctional intercellular communication (GJIC). This article is giving a brief description of the tactics to study the role of gap junction in atherosclerosis and thrombosis. [Nature and Science. 2006;4(4):79-89].

Connexin 37 limits thrombus propensity by downregulating platelet reactivity.

BACKGROUND Formation of platelet plug initiates hemostasis after vascular injury and triggers thrombosis in ischemic disease. However, the mechanisms leading to the formation of a stable thrombus are poorly understood. Connexins comprise a family of proteins that form gap junctions enabling intercellular coordination of tissue activity, a process termed gap junctional intercellular communicatio...

Regulating cross-talk between vascular smooth muscle cells.

Gap junctions are small pore-forming protein connections between neighboring cells that mediate the flow of ions and small molecules ( 1 200 Da). As such, they provide a degree of direct cytoplasmic continuity between cells that contributes, along with paracrine pathways, to the intercellular flow of information. These channels are often thought to be long-lived, nonspecific conduits allowing t...

Evaluation role of beta-2 adrenoceptor agonist and antagonist in the expression of gap junction genes (connexin 37/43) in cumulus cells of women with poor ovarian response

Background: Connexon is a membrane structural protein in the gap junctions. These cellular connections are responsible for transporting ions and messenger molecules to the oocyte. This study aimed to investigate the role of beta-2-adrenoceptors in the process of follicle growth based on the expression of the two connexins 37/43 in the gap junctions that have a primary role in the mitotic resump...

Altered pattern of vascular connexin expression in atherosclerotic plaques.

Paracrine cell-to-cell interactions are crucial events during atherogenesis. However, little is known about the role of direct intercellular communication via gap junctions during this process. We have investigated the expression pattern of 3 vascular gap junction proteins (connexins) in mouse and human atherosclerotic plaques. Low density lipoprotein receptor-deficient mice were fed a high-fat...

The Different Mechanisms of Action Potential Propagation in the Heart

It was thought previously that cardiac muscle gap junctions provide low-resistance connections between cells and permit the local-circuit current to flow. Some evidences show that myocardial cells may not require low-resistance connections for successful propagation of the action potential (AP). It seems that some other types of mechanisms must be involved in AP propagation. In this article, we...
